R6 Marketplace Release Date – Announcement & Closed Beta (2023–2024)
Ubisoft revealed the marketplace during Year 8 Season 4. The pitch was a player-to-player order book where weapon skins, operator uniforms, headgear, charms, and attachment skins could change hands using R6 Credits, with a 10% transaction fee on every completed sell order going to Ubisoft.
The closed beta launched in early 2024 with real stakes real Credits, real cosmetics, real trades. It wasn’t a sandbox test with fake items. Players in the beta were actually buying and selling Black Ice variants, rare Alpha Pack drops like Glacier and Obsidian, and everything in between. The mechanics that stayed through to full launch were established here: Clearance Level 25 as the entry gate, two-factor authentication as a requirement, Credits-only payouts (no cash-out), the 15 day hold before a purchased skin can be relisted, and the order book’s lowest-match fill system.
The beta also surfaced the most common new-seller problem early: your inventory doesn’t sync to the marketplace passively. You have to play a match first, which trips up almost everyone the first time they try to list something.
Full public launch: 10 June 2025
The marketplace opened to all eligible players on 10 June 2025, the same day Siege X dropped and Rainbow Six Siege became free-to-play. Timing the marketplace launch with Siege X was deliberate the free-to-play shift brought a wave of new players, which meant a larger pool of potential buyers and sellers entering the order book at the same time.
Eligibility requirements stayed the same as the beta: Clearance Level 25, 2FA active on the Ubisoft account, no active sanctions. Console players on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One accessed everything through the web portal there was never an in-game marketplace tab on console. PC players could use either the in-game client or the Ubisoft Connect web portal.
By this point, third-party tracker Stats.CC was logging live order book data across tradable cosmetics, giving the community real price history for the first time. Black Ice variants ranged from a few hundred Credits on the more common weapons up to well over a thousand for skins like Jäger’s 416-C Black Ice. Glacier a universal skin from Year 1 Season 1, February 2016 sat consistently at the higher end of the order book. Rarer attachment skins like Aethereal Flux, Dark Familiars, and World-Class Apparatus also traded actively.
The December 2025 exploit and outage
On 27 December 2025, someone exploited a backend vulnerability in the marketplace system and duplicated approximately 2 billion R6 Credits. The volume of artificial Credits threatened to flood the order book and collapse prices across tradable skins the equivalent of hyperinflation in a player economy that had taken over a year to develop price discovery.
Ubisoft’s response was immediate: they shut the marketplace down. They rolled back the affected transactions and confirmed publicly that no players would be banned in connection with the exploit. Credits that were tied up in active buy or sell orders at the time of the shutdown remain inaccessible while the marketplace is offline.
Stats.CC paused tracking when the marketplace went down. Any price data circulating online including on this site reflects last-known figures from before 27 December 2025.
